About This Event

A stroll around Rosemary Gardens - beautiful planting and local history, including an ancient inn, an old cobbled path and a lost church
In partnership with Islington Council, join Islington Guide Lesley Thompson for a gentle walk around leafy Rosemary Gardens and the surrounding streets and buildings. We will stroll past grassy and wilder woodland areas, see planting to encourage wildlife, a tree that grows beans and a football training pitch opened by Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger!
Centuries ago, archery was a popular sport here, then the local inn’s pleasure gardens and country air attracted visitors from the City until a lead factory was built on the site. We will also learn more about the intriguing local history, including the nearby canal, houses and warehouses.
Meet at 11am inside the park gate on Southgate Road N1 3JP closest to Downham Rd (there are two gates, this is the one by the bus stop).

Islington Guided Walks

Islington Guided Walks are the official tour guides for the Mayor of Islington. Our guides are fascinated and inspired by the rich culture and history of the borough; we are all trained to research and then imaginatively share this with you on our walks.

We guide across the borough from the borders of the City in Clerkenwell and Finsbury, through central Islington including the Angel, Barnsbury and Canonbury, to highbury, Holloway, Archway and the lower slopes of Highgate.
